Trick-or-Treat Boxes

Trick-or-Treat smell my feet, give me something good to eat...we'll just stop there. :)
I first saw this super cute idea here on pinterest. (It was done by brown paper packages as a guest on eighteen 25)

She bought her boxes from a craft store, but as always, I do my projects as cheap as possible so I picked up these 3 boxes for .50 each at DI (thrift store). I about died when I saw that cute red polka dotty box there already had a cute knob on the top since I was planning on buying one to put on the top of mine. That's when I knew this project and I were meant to be!!

After spraying painting all the boxes and lids black (I removed the knob b/c I thought I might paint it a different color)...

...I printed out these stencils on vinyl using my cricut.

I then mixed this purple and silver glitter paint together to paint the words onto the boxes.

When the paint was dry I pulled the vinyl stencil off, but the edges of the letters were a little smudgy. I had a temporary freak-out (cause remember this project was meant to be) and then after I calmed down thought maybe I could fix it up a little using some purple glitter glue out of my stash. I just outlined each letter and they turned out looking like this:

I didn't have any ribbon that worked for this project, so I picked up this fun purply, ruffly edged ribbon (obviously I have no idea what it's called) from Hobby Lobby for $1 (50% off) and hot glued it to the 'treat' box lid. I tied a quick little bow and glued it in the corner of the box to hid the place where the 2 edges of the purple ribbon met.

The last thing I did was paint the knob metallic sequin black (used up every last drop of my black spray paint on the boxes) and screw it back onto the top box.

A couple black stained hands and one meltdown later I had this!

And of course, what good would a 'treat' box be if there were no treats inside! Soooo not ashamed to admit this box was full when I first put this decoration out!

OH and I almost forgot...these boxes are glued together in this staggered way using E6000.

And wow...I need to dust. Gross. Oh well, I can't do everything!!!

Thanks for stopping by today, I'm having SOOO much fun sharing all these Halloween projects with you! Are you done decorating for Halloween or are you like me and can't STOP?! I'm going to try really hard to get a post up for you tomorrow, but I'm crazy busy trying to finish up my project for Round 2 of American Crafter! See ya soon!

Very cute! Love the "trick or treat" words and that the bottom box actually has treats in it. I also love how you fixed the words. Very ingenuitive!

Really cute! I was done with Halloween...why oh why do your boxes need to be so cute? I will definitely take a second look next time I see some. There could be so many adorable take off's from this idea! I love that you glued them together too...makes it more purposeful.

I'll have to stick around and check out the rest of your blog.
